Spring Retreat 2022 FAQS

The VACEOs Spring Retreat 2022 will be held Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront April 27-29, 2022. New to the Council? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Retreat experience.

Spring Retreat FAQs

Q: Does my membership include entry into the Spring Retreat?

A: Yes. Your VACEOs Membership includes a ticket to this special yearly event where Members are able to learn and connect with national thought leaders and each other. (And have some fun too!)

Q. What does registration include?

A: Members who attend the Retreat have a one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn from national keynote speakers and take advantage of various leadership workshops. Program meals and planned activities from Wednesday night to Friday mid-day are also included for Members.

Membership does not include hotel rooms/expenses or activities outside of those offered within the program. Visit the 2022 Retreat Registration page for a detailed listing of the activities available at this year’s event.

Q: The first speaker starts on Thursday morning. Should I come Wednesday night?

A: Yes! We strongly recommend you come down on Wednesday. This year we will have a reception on the Cavalier Great Lawn. You don’t want to miss that. And during the day there are special activities. Why not maximize your time by making connections during one of the group activities planned that day? Events include a bourbon tasting, indoor skydiving at IFly, guided tour with Nature Bus, and cornhole. For a sit-down dinner on Wednesday, make your own plans at Orion’s Roof or Tulu’s Seaside Bar and Grill at the Marriott.

Q: Do I need to book a room?

A: Yes. As soon as possible! We have a block of rooms reserved through April 5. Use the special group link found in your confirmation to make your reservation.

Q: Should I bring my spouse or significant other?

A: The Retreat program is designed just for members and sponsors. We recommend that you immerse yourself. After all, this is a business retreat. We will have guest tickets for our two evening social events. Some folks have their spouse join them on Friday afternoon for an extra night or two of R&R. We have a reception Friday night just for the “lingerers.” Our special room rates are good several days before and after the Retreat.

Q: Is there a dress code?

A: Not really. Let’s call it business casual or resort casual. Relax and be comfortable. 

Q: I’ve arrived at the hotel. Now what?

A: If you arrive Wednesday, please check in the hotel, (time permitting), before you make your way to the group activity you’ve registered for or take advantage of other amenities, such as the spa.

If you arrive Thursday morning, we will officially welcome you at the Retreat Registration desk located on the second floor outside the Seaside Ballroom starting at 8:30 am.

Stephanie received both her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Georgia. She has worked as a trial lawyer, elected to seven terms as a state representative, ran an environmental nonprofit law firm that settled the largest Clean Water Act case in Georgia history, served as Director of Sustainability and Resilience for the City of Atlanta, and taught as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Georgia School of Law.

Stephanie’s achievements include being named one of the 100 Most Influential Georgians by Georgia Trend Magazine and a graduate of Leadership Atlanta. She is active in her community, a longstanding member of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, and serves on many nonprofit boards, including the National Sierra Club Foundation, EarthShare of Georgia, and her local zoning review board.

Jan Dutton Presents Virginia Business Climate Risk

Weather and climate conditions in Virginia are changing. These changes may present new risks to a wide range of Virginia based businesses.  The presentation will examine climate changes occurring nationally and in Virginia while discussing the implications of these changes for the future, leading to a examples of specific risks a changing climate may engender, and will end with a discussion of how to evaluate and quantify a climate related risk in preparation for the development of mitigation strategies.

about Jan Dutton

Dr. Jan Dutton is the CEO of Prescient Weather Ltd and ClimBiz Ltd.  His career spans positions at Weather Ventures, Earth Networks, Storm Exchange, Schneider Electric, and DTN.  Dr. Dutton’s career objective is to enable business decision making based on weather and climate information.

Dr. Dutton was recently completed a six-year term as the member of the Penn State Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science Advisory Board.  He currently is a volunteer mentor for the American Meteorological Society Board on Private Sector Meteorology and a member of the Committee on Climate Services. 

He received a dual degree B.A. in Physics and Science and Technology Studies from Colby College in Waterville, ME in 1994.  He received a Ph.D. from the Penn State Department of Meteorology in 2000.  He also received an MBA from the Smeal College Business at Penn State in 2000.  His dissertation focused on the simulation of interannual climate variability using regional climate models.  Dr. Dutton is honored to strengthen existing and build new customer and partner relationships based on the unique leading-edge climate analysis and forecasting capabilities created by Prescient Weather Ltd.

Prescient Weather develops innovative climate and weather based solutions to enable critical decisions making.

Alex Bartholomaus Presents How the OKR Goal-Setting Framework Impacts People and Culture
